'Man of Steel' commentary

Well, it's 2015, so that means that this is The Year for the Mash-up project - or, it would be, if Zack Snyder hadn't moved 'Batman V Superman' back a year. But regardless, we're entering the final stages of the project and before we smash through the remainder of Marvel's Phase Two, it's time to examine what turned out to be the opening chapter of the DC Cinematic Universe - 'Man of Steel'!

It's been a long time since we've seen the big blue Boy Scout, last prancing about under the guidance of Bryan Singer in 2006's 'Superman Returns', but we can forget all about that business, apparently, as we're in firm reboot territory here, with the creative team behind the Dark Knight trilogy stepping up to the plate to try and do for Supes what Nolan did for Bats.

Is it successful? Can Superman be realistic? Gritty? Willing to punch a man's head into a dumpster? Find out - in this month's Marvel Vs DC Movie Mash-up!

Iron Man 3' commentary

Ho ho holy crap, there's a foreigner blowing things up!

He's teaching us lessons. He's sending us cryptic video messages. Yes, that's right, it's time for us to face off against The Jo- Mandarin. Yes. The Mandarin. But as anyone who likes a bit of Marvel knows, it's not going to be that simple, there's twists and turns and oh so many gags ahead of us!

As it's Christmas, the Mash-up is delving into phase two of the MCU with the appropriately festive 'Iron Man 3'. But what does the world have in store for Tony Stark in the wake-of The Avengers? Well, it seems that basically it's a film that's very much its own beast - but is it a beast we want to tame and keep as a pet, or one we want to execute behind the woodshed?

Find out, in our Christmas Mash-up!!

'The Dark Knight Rises' commentary

Mglepghh! Hmnuh! Bhmm!

Yes, it's true, a fire is rising beneath the Mash-up this month, as we skip away from Marvel's jovial barrage of primary colours and return to some of that DC dank despair - this time being stewarded by Chrissy Nolan as he attempts to conclude his take on The Bat Man.

Now, 'The Dark Knight Rises' is a big movie. Whichever way you look at it. Big ambitions, big set pieces, big running time. So it only seems appropriate that to deal with Chrissy Nolo's epic of epicness, WHINECAST ups the ante and delivers what we *think* is our longest podcast ever. May God have mercy on us all.

But hopefully, you'll think the length is justified, as there's frankly so damn much in this film to talk about, a thousand topics. But naturally, the key topic that we need to address, the question that needs to be answered, the one we've been asking ourselves since 2012 - is it any good? Aside from the hype, the expectation, the arses leaning over bikes - does the film actually work outside of its gargantuan release hoopla?

‘The Avengers’ commentary

This is a big one, ladies and gentlemen!

Yep, the Mash-up has spent the last few months well and truly immersed in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe getting to know a whole new family of characters. In reality, the largest test a family gathering can endure is Christmas dinner, but this is The Fictions, so we’re going to be witnessing something almost as traumatic - intergalactic invasion!

Yes, the MCU’s Phase One is coming to an end with an almighty smash and the WHINECAST boys aren’t going to be shying away from the hard topics - do logic problems matter when you’re having a damn good time? Should Robert Downey Jnr be allowed to wield so much power? Could ScarJo’s hips get any more amaze balls?

Tune into this month’s Marvel Vs DC Movie Mash-up to get the answer to these burning questions - and many many more!

'Captain America: The First Avenger' commentary

Once more into the breach, good playas!

Yes, the Mash-up is returning and once more, unsurprisingly, we’re back with the apparently inexhaustible run of films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this time it’s to check in with a new character to the proceedings, the big boy in blue, comic’s most famous boy scout, it’s of course Su- CAPTAIN AMERICA!

It’s a film one half of WHINECAST have only seen once prior and the other half has a mixed relationship with. But in the wake of well received and game changing 'The Winter Soldier', the exceptional ‘Guardians’ and the no-doubt-to-be-amazing ‘Age of Ultron’ (plus the soon upcoming TV adventures of a certain Ms. Carter), will we look back on Cap’s first instalment in a new light?

Will Tommy Lee Jone’s phone it in? Will Chris Evans physique be enough for Bill? Will Chris make questionable remarks about Hayley Atwells shapes? There’s only one way to find out and that’s by pumping your veins full of this podcast like Jewish Magicks Juice!

‘Thor’ commentary

Is that thunder you hear on the horizon? No, idiot, it’s the roar of excitement that the internet emits when we release a new instalment of the Marvel Vs DC Movie Mash-up!

This month, we’re somehow managing to burrow even deeper into Marvel’s maturing cinematic universe as we sit down to discuss everything ‘Thor’! Now that we’re sat on the other side of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and Marvel has proved itself to be a hit maker of such proportions that it causes other movie studios to involuntarily soil themselves, it’s easy to forget that just three years ago a live action movie based on a hunky weather alien seemed like a pretty risky proposition. But throw together a script that’s both sassy and serious - without being pompous - get yourself some name talent both in front and behind the camera and Baby, you’ve got yourself a stew cookin’!

But once we separate the MCU entanglements, push aside the pant moistening cast and focus on the nitty gritty, are we left with a movie that stands up to scrutiny? That’s the question WHINECAST is gonna answer, so grab your MeeMou, ready your generic MP3 player and try not to fall into the OdinSleep (tm) - because a storm’s coming!

All of Whine and Space- 'Guardians of the Galaxy' review

So, it's time for what might have once seemed like a pretty big gamble for old Marvel - deriving one of their phase two films not from a hugely established property, a name brand (such as a tempting cash in with a Hulk standalone) , instead we focus on a comparatively unknown bunch for the tenth outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the 'guardians of the galaxy'.

Has this gamble paid off for Marvel? Have they got too cocky, tried to fix a formula that wasn't broken?

Essentially - are there cracks in the shiny facade? Does a large ensemble cast work for the film? When is the 12A rating stretched beyond its limits? Can a wrestler be expected to act? All these questions and more will be answered in this week's WHINECAST review!
