'Captain America: Civil War' review

The battle lines are drawn! The Titans are about to clash! The greatest gladiator match of all time!

WHINECAST braved the midnight screenings last night to feast our eyes on Marvel's answer to Batman V Superman - but did it meet expectations? Would the Russo brothers be able to manage the gargantuan cast of characters presented to them? Would they be able to realistically take our superpals to a place where they would be trading blows? Would the Russo's earn their place as the new standard bearers of the Avengers franchise?

Join us, as we sit down to discuss all these issues and many, many, many, many more - 'cos it's about to go down!

'Avengers - Age of Ultron' commentary

Marvel's Avengers Assemble Ultron!

Yes they do, with disastrous/hilarious consequences. It's been a year since the release of Joss Whedon's sequel to the universally well regarded 'The Avengers' and so it's time to finally sit down with a proper, old fashioned commentary and discuss how we feel about 'Ultron' a year later.

Did the film deserve it's slightly lukewarm reaction? If so, can the blame be laid at Whedon's door? Or, are we dealing with a film that deserves a reappraisal, perhaps an under appreciated classic? Most importantly, just how old *is* Ultron, anyway? All these questions and many, many more will be addressed as we watch 'Marvel's Avengers Assemble 2: The Avengers Assemble Ultron'!

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ review

It’s the greatest gladiator match in history!

Yes, two legendary titans are facing off in a conflict of epic proportions - @billowl and @ChrisSykes108 are having a gentlemanly disagreement over Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and it’s a war of words the likes of which the world has never heard - and naturally it boils over into full on punches being thrown (entirely untrue).

Does Cavill get the sequel he deserves? Does Affleck own the cowl? Will Snyder fumble the ball, or will Marvel be looking at a legitimate new competitor? All these questions and many, many, many more will be answered or, like, addressed, as we get ready to fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight!

The Dark Knight Returns!

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ preview special

The Bat of Gotham! The Son of Krypton! The attempt to beat Marvel at their own game!

That’s right, Warner Bros. and DC are about to roll the dice big style as they attempt to kick start their own interconnected superhero cinematic universe, and despite the ridiculously high profile of DC’s finest, the film represents a big gamble for everyone involved - so WHINECAST is here to talk about the perils and pitfalls of Warner/DC’s grand play.

How much will the film acknowledge ‘Man of Steel’ due to its divided reception? Will Ben Affleck be able to successfully fill the cowl after the much adored Bale/Nolan interpretation? Will Zack Snyder respond to criticisms levelled against his last Superman entry, or stick to his considerable guns?

Join us - as we sit down and theorise about a film that’s got enough pressure on its shoulders to strain even the Man of Steel and The Dark Knight!

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ review

Bloated. Overlong. Bursting with too many concepts and tangents.

But that’s not Jim Whedon’s ‘Age of Ultron’, it’s WHINECAST’s epic review of the greatly anticipated sequel that brings back together everyone’s favourite superhero team (for all of three years) - THE AVENGERS! Yes, the time is finally upon us and after a monster build up in which we’ve looked at every bloody instalment in the bloody Marvel Bloody Cinematic Universe it’s now time to sit down and take a good hard look at the second instalment in Marvel’s crown jewel franchise.

Can the film possibly live up to its universally admired predecessor? Will familiarity breed contempt? Or will Jim Whedon soar through the sky like Iron Man/War Machine/Thor/The Vison/Falcon/Other, rising to the occasion and delivering a follow up that makes us laugh, cry and have ALL the emotions? There’s only one way to find out, so strap on your colostomy bag for a review that could be charitably described as ‘comprehensive’!

'Guardians of the Galaxy' commentary

So! The biggest A-holes in the galaxy bring the long running Mash-up to a close with their 'Guardians of the Galaxy' commentary. In the final entry in the Mash-up before Josie Windale brings us the runaway hit that will be 'Age Of Ultron' we discuss Marvel’s biggest risk to date (not counting the hiring of the most electrifying man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jnr). With James Gunn at the helm would 'Guardians' be another triumph in Marvel's production line of hits, or the first stinker in the MCU?

With a line up including a Lord, a destroyer, a tree, a raccoon and an assassin whore, this film managed to surprisingly bring joy and excitement to our cinema screens, and after a parade of critical and financial success it’s the job of the WHINECAST boyz to work out whether this was just a flash in the pan or a true gem to marvel at for years to come.

So, for one last time, we strap ourselves in for a ride through the galaxy on that ever so comfortable barrel the Mr Feige has us over!

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

Are you feeling patriotic? What do you mean you're not American? Of course you are and, as such, you're going to be flipping thrilled with the latest instalment of the Mash-up, as we're going to be catching up with the world's greatest soldier, the most righteous of the Boy Scouts - it's Captain 'Stevie Rogers' America - and this time he's not facing those lovable scamps the Nazis, this time he's going all political by getting up in our faces with government oversight, rampant surveillance and massive stupid shoot-y warships.

Lauded upon its release, 'The Winter Soldier' was an undeniably huge turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring the revelation that the previously benign SHIELD was in fact just a puppet of the ever shifting HYDRANT. But does the film deserve its highly respected reputation? This time, it's one of the rare instances where the WHINECAST boys have a genuine disagreement about the film - one loves it, the other..uh...not so much.

So make friends whilst jogging, ignore the advances of attractive women and bring down the organisation that employs you - because winter is coming!
