'Iron Man' commentary

Goodness!

After almost a year of podcasting about the various antics of the caped crusader and that bloke of steel, we're finally ready to put some Marvel into this Marvel Vs DC Mash-up!

Yep, we're kicking off the next stage of the project by turning our eyes to the very first instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when The Avengers was but a hopeful dream and we all had endured fewer Loki fangirls. But before we get there, we have the curious first entry, Jon Favreu's 'Iron man', a 2008 release that took a comparatively lesser known character like Tony Stark and brought him up to the very biggest of leagues, kicking off a series of films that continue to pummel us relentlessly.

So, sit down with a fine brandy, possibly a cigar, and get ready to fiddle about with things in your workshop until you've got yourself the makings of a leviathan cinematic franchise!

Goats in the Machine' turns their eyes skyward!

Good day to you!

The mash-up is about to leave behind ol' Supes for some time, but before we do, our good friends and possible alcoholics @RJBayley and @niallheseltine are going to be casting their eyes over Bryan Singer's 2006 entry 'Superman Returns'.

But they're not taking on this task alone, oh no! This time, they're bringing @EyesSkyward with them for the journey, a handsome, cultured chap who also coincidentally happens to be a real, genuine Superman-ologist!

Enough jibber jabber, press play on this bad boy and prepare to go Up, Up and Away!

'Apparently Ranty' analyses what happens when a Superb Man returns!

Hey, Kids!

Our good friend @proroan is back to take a look at 2006's 'Superman Returns', the film that was intended to reignite an audience's love for the man of steel on a scale that would challenge Chrissy Nolan's rebooted Batman from just a year earlier.

Where did it succeed? Where did it fail?

Let @proroan tell you!

WHINECAST - 'Captain America - The Winter Soldier' review

It's finally time for the Captain to return! Captain Morgan, you ask hopefully? I'm afraid not, this is the more sober, more violent variety, that chap with Tiger Blood running through his veins and a curiosity for the 21st century percolating in his brain!

It's a rare WHINECAST review this time as we're dealing with one of the infrequent occasions where we have seriously different views of the film in question. One of us loves it, the other hates it. Yes, it's time for an audio punch-up, so let's see who comes out bleeding!

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' review

WARNING - For unknown reasons, the audio on this review isn't quite up to our usual standard, for which we profusely apologise. We hope it doesn't diminish your enjoyment too much and we'll be looking into that unpleasant mystery before we record again

'Superman Returns' commentary

After months under the wings of the Dark Knight, the mash-up finally falls back under the benevolent gaze of the Man of Steel - as this month we sit back and chew the fat on Bryan Singers 2006 semi-reboot of the cinematic Kyrptonian that we're all so fond of.

Greeted with positive reviews upon its release and generating healthy box office returns, 'Superman Returns' now takes the place as possible the greatest 'what if' of the entire Mash-up project. Following hotly on the heels of Christopher Nolan's Batman reboot in 2005, 'Superman Returns' looks not to the future as Nolan did, but to the past, attempting to emulate the style of the persistently lauded Superman film (s) of Richard Donner.

But is this the right call? Can the film's many accomplishments overcome its failings? Where would the franchise have gone were it to have been granted a sequel?

All these questions and many, many more are answered in this month's podcast, so fly yourself up and out of the atmosphere, pop in your headphones and watch the earth silently rotate below you as we get to grips with one of the most interesting and controversial films ever to focus on a superhero!

Punch it!

'Goats in the a Machine' worships at the altar of Saint Christopher (Nolan)!

Better late than never, that's our motto at the mash-up, so despite us being dangerously late into our 'Superman Returns' month we're THRILLED, as always, to welcome back @RJBayley and @niallhestletine to the mash-up as they, plus a Special Guest, get themselves good and bladdered in order to express their feelings on Chris Nolan's 2005 reboot of the cinematic Batman.

Do they like it? Do they hate it? Well, we'll be honest, they like it. They really like it. But that doesn't stop their review from being any less wonderful than their incredulous reception of various Schumacher entires that we have tolerated previously.

So, sit back, pour a noxious substance into a glass skull, down it in one and then listen to three scholars tell you what you already suspected - that 'Batman Begins' is really rather good!

Apparently Ranty tackles Christopher Nolan!

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking 'hey, you there, I'm sure you told me that March was 'Superman Returns' month on the Marvel Vs DC Movie Mash-up, so what's all this caped crusader nonsense?!?'.

Well, to that we would say CORRECT! March is indeed the time for the return of the last son of krypton, the man of steel, the blue Boy Scout. But before we get there we still need to take the time to dive into regular contributor and confirmed Playa @proroan's take on Christopher Nolan's 2005 hard, grim, realistic reboot of the Dark Knight in 'The Bat Man'.

What are you waiting for? Get stuck in!
